LES MISÉRABLES

Book by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg
Music by Claude-Michel Schönberg
Lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer

This international smash-hit may be the most popular musical in the world. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.

Epic, grand and uplifting, LES MISÉRABLES packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. The sung-through pop opera is ideal for a cast of exceptional singers and overflows with melodies that are already standards. A spectacle on Broadway and in London, LES MISÉRABLES is equally effective with a minimal set; it is its powerful affirmation of the human spirit that has made LES MISÉRABLES a popular masterpiece.

MESSIAH ON THE FRIGIDAIRE

By John Culbertson

The small town of Elroy, South Carolina is thrust into the evangelical spotlight, when what seems to be the image of Jesus appears on a refrigerator in a trailer park. The discovery by Lou Ann Hightower, her husband Dwayne, and her best friend Betsy, sets into motion a frenzy of conflict, communion and good old fashioned commerce. When the National Investigator turns the appearance into front page headlines, their trailer park becomes a mecca for miracle seekers, soul searchers and disciples with a decidedly political agenda. Through the ordeal, the three undergo an evolution in their relationships with each other, and they are forced to come to grips with their lowly status in the caste system of the rural south. In a region where religion is as much a part of life as grits and cotton fields, God surely moves in mysterious ways.

EVERY CHRISTMAS STORY EVER TOLD (And Then Some!)

By Michael Carleton, James FitzGerald, and John K. Alvarez
Original Music by Will Knapp

Instead of performing Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic for the umpteenth time, three actors decide to perform every Christmas story ever told (hitting on Dickens’ story of Scrooge to “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” to “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” to “Frosty the Snowman” to “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, among others) — plus Christmas traditions from around the world, seasonal icons from ancient times to topical pop-culture, and every carol ever sung. A madcap romp through the holiday season!

“If you’re looking for a traditional holiday entertainment, be forewarned: This performance has more in common with wild and crazy sketch comedy than it does with a performance of a full-length Christmas play!” – Citybeat, Cincinnati

“A show that will have you laughing harder than spiked egg nog.” — Kelly Monaghan, TheOtherOrlando

“The play accomplishes the small miracle of making all Christmas myths seem both utterly ridiculous and absolutely essential. Yes, Virginia, you can have your fruitcake and eat it, too.” –Steve Schneider, Orlando Weekly

WHEN PIGS FLY

Conceived by Howard Crabtree and Mark Waldrop
Sketches and Lyrics by Mark Waldrop
Music by Dick Gallagher

Winner! Drama Desk award for Best Musical Revue
Winner! Outer Critics Circle award for Best Off Broadway Musical

A musical revue in the old tradition, When Pigs Fly is a grab bag of songs, dances, sketches, and running gags unified by a gay sensibility that combines a love of traditional musical theatre, a taste for outrageous visual humor, and a delight in shameless wordplay. These elements are strung upon the slenderest of plot threads (a mad genius costume designer, putting on the show he’s always dreamed of doing); the individual numbers are the meat of the show. In When Pigs Fly the empty stage becomes a kind of dreamscape populated by the costume designer’s fevered imagination. The audience never knows who or what it will see next. A bare-breasted mermaid? A Garden of Eden tableau? Bette Davis as Baby Jane slinging a life-size Joan Crawford rag doll around? They all get into the act. Each freshly revealed character will have something to say, usually through song, that provides a skewed but revelatory reflection of what it is to be gay in the 1990s. Though the spirit is gay — in both senses of the word — the tone is inclusive, and always the tilt is towards the universal. When Pigs Fly is completely accessible to anyone who can appreciate being smart and silly at the same time.

WEIRD ROMANCE

Music by Alan Menken
Lyrics by David Spencer
Book by Alan Brennert

Having achieved cult-favorite status among musical buffs, this off-beat musical by the composer of Little Shop of Horrors and the Disney films Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid is two one-act musicals of speculative fiction.

The first, The Girl Who Was Plugged In, is about a homeless bag-lady whose soul is transplanted into the body of a gorgeous female android by a company which manufactures celebrities; she soon falls in love with the boss’s son, but wonders whether he loves her perfect body or the real person behind it.

The second, Her Pilgrim Soul, is about a scientist who researches holographic imaging. One day a mysterious “living” holograph, apparently a woman long dead, appears and changes his life forever.

Her Pilgrim Soul is a melodious musical about buried memory and reincarnation.” – The New York Times

Her Pilgrim Soul is so cunningly written and musicalized with such emotional sincerity, I dare any proponent of new age philosophy to resist it.” – USA Today

BARE

Music by Damon Intrabartolo
Lyrics by Jon Hartmere, Jr.
Book by Jon Hartmere, Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo

A group of high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school face issues of sexuality and personal identity.  There’s Peter, the sweet, sensitive nerd, and Jason, the deeply closeted jock, whose secret relationship with Peter blossomed during a holiday break.  Jason’s insecurities take a predictable path from the moment he is cast as Romeo in the school production of “Romeo and Juliet”.

He is opposite Ivy, a transfer student trailed by damaging rumors of promiscuity from her previous school. Adding to the hormonal tempest is the lovelorn Matt, pining for the unattainable Ivy, and Jason’s sister Nadia, a hard-edged outsider and recreational drug dealer with an improbable crush on Matt.  As they struggle to come to terms with who they are, and who the world thinks they should be, they seek answers from their Church, their friends, and ultimately, from within themselves. Its rich, vibrant score draws on many styles of contemporary music.

“Bare… taps into today’s raised consciousness about adolescent homophobia, stigmatization and bullying. It’s frequently touching and tender, scoring points for the conviction of its young cast.” — New York Times

CHESS

Book by Richard Nelson
Lyrics by Tim Rice
Music by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson

The collaborators on Chess are giants of rock music and rock musicals and they have created a complex rock opera that played to full Broadway houses and standing ovations. Here the ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, competitive gamesmanship, super power politics and international intrigues. The pawns in this drama form a love triangle: the loutish American chess star, the earnest Russian champion and a Hungarian American female assistant who arrives at the international chess match in Bangkok with the American but falls for the Russian. From Bangkok to Budapest the players, lovers, politicians, and spies manipulate and are manipulated to the pulse of a monumental rock score that includes “One Night in Bangkok” and “Heaven Help My Heart”.

“One of the best rock scores ever produced. This is an angry, difficult, demanding and rewarding show.”- Time

NEXT TO NORMAL

Music by Tom Kitt
Book and Lyrics by Brian Yorkey

Nominated for nine Tony Awards in 2009
Pulitzer-Prize Winner for Drama: 2010

Next to Normal is one of the most powerful stage experiences to hit Broadway in recent years becoming the most talked about new show across the country. This brave and breathtaking musical is the acclaimed, groundbreaking show “that pushed Broadway in new directions” (says Rolling Stone).

This electrifying and powerful rock musical tells the intense and poignant story of a mother, Diana, who wakes up just like any other day with her husband, her 16 year-old daughter and soon-to-be 18 year old son. The musical follows the humor and pathos of this suburban family dealing with mental illness, as Diana embarks on yet another round of treatment for bipolar disorder and the family secrets emerge forcing us to question the always ideal definition of normal. A theatrical experience like no other that will pin you to your seat as you immerse in this emotional powerhouse that changed musical theatre forever with this thrilling contemporary rock score.
