THE ADDAMS FAMILY (MUSICAL)

Book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elise
Music and Lyrics by Andrew Lippa

THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

THE BOYS IN THE BAND (STAGED READING)

by Mart Crowley

In his upper eastside Manhattan apartment, Michael is throwing a birthday party for Harold, a self-awoved “32 year-old, pock-marked, Jew fairy”, complete with surprise gift: “Cowboy” a street hustler. As the evening wears on, fueled by drugs and alcohol, bitter, unresolved resentments among the guests come to light when a game of “Truth” goes terribly wrong.

“A play of real substance, one that deserves to be performed not occasionally but regularly.–The Wall Street Journal

“…terrifically thoughtful…The Boys in the Band emerges remarkably universal.”-NY1

“Witty, !@#$%^&*, revelatory and dazzlingly entertaining…the excoriating wit is still there.”–New York Post

“Humor is still on key in this poignant, sparkling revival of a landmark gay play…the star of the evening is the play itself solidly built, still moving and enormously entertaining.”–New York Daily News

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (Musical – Revival)

Book, Music and Lyrics by Richard O’Brien

That sweet transvestite and his motley crew did the time warp and they’re back for a revival. Complete with sass from the audience, cascading toilet paper and an array of other audience participation props, this deliberately kitschy rock ‘n’ roll sci fi gothic is more fun than ever.

“A musical that deals with mutating identity and time warps becomes one of the most mutated, time warped phenomena in show business.”- The New York Times

“Campy trash.”- Time

TOYER (Drama)

by Gardner McKay

A toyer is someone who toys; he is a mass paralyzer who toys with his victims. He does not murder or rape, he seduces and then immobilizes.

From the author: “If this play is about anything, it is about our vast ability to manipulate one another. About our wondrous gift for lying. It is about our awful power of charisma. It is about our capacity to believe any truth, as it suits us. It is about our immediate power to forgive; our need to move on. It is about compromise, our willingness to sleep with our executioner. It is about our moral lawlessness: our loss of instincts, and the inner beliefs of our own. It is about our capacity to absorb mindless horror, that a crime is only a crime if it happens to us; nothing else angers us. It is about our dreadful crimes; not that they happen, that we know about them and turn the page.”

“Deeply disturbing and entirely relevant. A classic mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat, guessing.” – All Things Considered, National Public Radio

“A brilliant evening of theater. A double tour de force. The most exciting play we’ve had all year.” – Variety

“Powerful.” – The Washington Post

THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK CHRISTMAS MUSICAL (Musical)

Music and lyrics by David Nehls
Book by Betsy Kelso

It’s holiday time down in Armadillo Acres (North Florida’s premier mobile-living community), and everyone’s filled with warmth and beer. But when a freak bout of amnesia strikes the trailer park Scrooge, neighborly love is put to the test. Be on hand as Betty, Lin, and Pickles jingle all the way with some new neighbors in an all-new, all-trailer-park musical!  This companion to the original GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL is just as much of a cat-fightin’, sun-worshippin’, chair-throwin’ good time-—but with tinsel and Keg Nog.

Contains pervasive tasteless humor and adult language.

BASH: LATTERDAY PLAYS (Staged Reading)

by Neil Labute

A collection of three dark one act plays written by Neil LaBute (“Fat Pig”) which remind us that nice people do dreadful things.

All three are surprising in their evolution, as each involves a gradual revelation from the characters in confidence with their “audience.” The first piece, Iphigenia in Orem, is about a business man who confides in a stranger a terrible secret.  The second piece, A Gaggle of Saints, is a disturbing tale of a weekend trip to Manhattan by several Bostonians for a party, which culminates in a vile violent “night cap.”  The third, Medea Redux is a heart breaking story of young woman’s spun world, as she speaks into a recorder inside a mental institution/asylum.

I DO! I DO! (Musical)

Book by  Tom Jones
Music by  Harvey Schmidt
Lyrics by  Tom Jones
Based on The Fourposter by Jan de Hartog

The story of a marriage is at the center of I DO! I DO! – an intimate and nostalgic work by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones (The Fantasticks). Written as a star vehicle for theater legends Mary Martin and Robert Preston, the original Broadway production received seven TONY Award nominations.

The show begins with Michael and Agnes on their wedding day. Their vows behind them, they look forward to spending the rest of their lives together. We watch as they go through their wedding night jitters, raise a family, and negotiate mid-life crises through 50 years of marriage.

This touching story of two soul mates navigating the perils of life is set to a tuneful, charming score.

COMPLETELY HOLLYWOOD (ABRIDGED)

By Reed Martin & Austin Tichenor
Additional Material by Dominic Conti

Starring Peggie Kaan, Eric Dowdy, and Tyler Carlson

It’s the Greatest Hollywood Blockbuster Never Made! From the writers of The Complete Words of Shakespeare (Abridged), these three loons will be reducing 187 movies in under two hours, and condensing every cliché from every movie ever made (plus a few new ones they just made up) into an evening of “stellar shtick”.

The madness! The method! The images! The implants! Armed with the theory that every Hollywood movie is just a combination of two old movies, we unleash such unlikely mash-ups as Kevin Bacon teaching a disabled writer how to dance in My Left Footloose, Jessica Tandy and Robert DeNiro in the feel-good movie of the year Taxi Driving Miss Daisy, Rosie O’Donnell starring in the new musical My Big Fat Fair Lady, and Akira Kurosawa directing Disney’s next hit Snow White and the Seven Samurai. It all culminates in the summer’s biggest blockbuster with no stars, no budget, and no popcorn–but plenty of laughs!

NO EXIT (Staged Reading)

by Jean Paul Sartre

This is the 1944 existentialist French play (in English) by Jean-Paul Sartre.   The play is a depiction of the afterlife in which three deceased characters are punished by being locked into a room together for eternity. It is the source of Sartre’s especially famous and often misinterpreted quotation “L’enfer, c’est les autres” or “Hell is other people”.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (Musical)

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Tim Rice

It seems especially fitting that the first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent ’60s, should have at its center a social and political rebel. Jesus’ meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As his radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ’s final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.

LUMINOUS

On Saturday, April 9, Theatre Alliance is holding a special event
fundraiser to honor Carole Mitchell, an outstanding volunteer who has
been a huge part of Theatre Alliance since 2008.

We have entitled the hour-long evening “Luminous,” which is defined
as “full of or shedding light; bright or shining, especially in the
dark.” This word demonstrates Carole and her indomitable spirit, and
we have tailored a fun, fast-paced evening around a few of her
favorite things, with songs ranging from folk to Broadway, pop to
rock.

We would love to have your attendance as we honor a powerhouse of a
woman…a volunteer…a friend.

She is luminous.

BLOOD BROTHERS (Musical)

Book, Music & Lyrics by Willy Russell

“Tell me it’s not true. Say it’s just a story…”

BLOOD BROTHERS, by the author of Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine, is a haunting rags to riches tale of our times. A woman with numerous children to support surrenders one of her new born twins to the childless woman she cleans for. The boys grow up streets apart, never learning the truth but becoming firm friends and falling in love with the same girl.

Haunting music, a beautiful story, and entrancing characters make it a true theatrical classic of our time, in the vein of Les Miserables.

“A full bodied musical, a wonderful melodrama that is also a thoroughly modern ballad opera.” Wall Street Journal

“The most exciting thing to have happened to the English musical theatre for years.” Punch
