Come out and audition for Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance! This audition will be for Green Day’s American Idiot, a special Theatre Alliance revue, Something Rotten, select roles in Evita, and The Rocky Horror Show.
 
Audition time sign-ups for the reading portion of the audition are at the bottom of this page. 
 
If you missed signing up for a reading slot, don’t worry.  Come at 9 a.m. on June 5 and we’ll fit you in!!
All auditionees will be asked to sing at callbacks. A dance combination from American Idiot will be taught and there will be cold readings from the scripts of the various shows. Any auditionee who taps should bring tap shoes and be prepared to learn a brief tap combo.
 
Please arrive at 9:00 am or as soon as you can so you can start learning the dance combo, and sing — even if your audition reading time is later. You will be auditioning the entire morning. Dancing audition will be after all the reading auditions (at 11am). Callbacks will be at 12:15 pm.
 
 

Character Breakdowns

American Idiot

American Idiot performs July 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25 (will begin to rehearse immediately) – performed on our outdoor stage. Especially interested in ages 16-30 for this production. American Idiot follows the exhilarating journey of a new generation of young Americans as they struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world, borne along by Green Day’s electrifying score. This high-octane show includes every song from the acclaimed album American Idiot, as well as several songs from the band’s Grammy-winning release, 21st Century Breakdown.
 

Johnny
The self-proclaimed “Jesus of Suburbia.” Bored of his do-nothing, go-nowhere existence, he takes off for the city to get a new lease on life. He wages an inner war between a budding love for Whatsername and growing dependency on St. Jimmy and drugs.

Tunny
Johnny’s friend who follows him to the city and eventually enlists in the army. He travels to the Middle East. A dreamer who is easily swayed, first by Johnny’s ideas and then by patriotism and the American Dream.

Johnny’s friend. He ends up staying in Suburbia to take care of pregnant girlfriend, Heather. The more he stays on the couch, the more he becomes slowly disconnected from the world and his own relationships.

Johnny’s alter ego. Known as the “city badass.” An enigmatic and charismatic enabler who gets Johnny addicted to drugs and grows jealous of his relationship with Whatsername.

Heather
A girl in Suburbia and Will’s girlfriend. She discovers she is pregnant but has difficulty telling her boyfriend of the news. Once she settles down with him, she struggles to maintain their relationship with his despondency and eventually leaves him.

Whatsername
A girl in the city who falls for Johnny. A rebellious activist who is willing to follow Johnny to the ends of the earth, but fights to have him embrace their authentic relationship rather than pursue his addiction.

Extraordinary Girl
A girl in the Middle East who appears as a sexual hallucination to injured Tunny. Attractive and mysterious, she later appears as his nurse and accompanies him home after the war.

Something Rotten

Something Rotten performs August 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 (will begin to rehearse late June) and will be the first mainstage production inside our new theatre! Two brothers set out to write the world’s first musical in this hilarious mash-up of sixteenth-century Shakespeare and twenty-first-century Broadway.

Evita

Evita performs September 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 (will rehearse in late July/August) Select ensemble roles are available. We especially need men. If you expressed interest previously, please do so again now. Featuring a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and book and lyrics by Tim Rice, Evita tells the story of the charismatic and glamorous first lady of Argentina, Eva Peron.

The Rocky Horror Show

The Rocky Horror Show performs October 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30. Searching for select leads and ensemble roles. First choice will be given to cast of our most recent revival, but if you are interested in any capacity, please audition. Innocent Brad and Janet find themselves seeking shelter at a mysterious old castle on a dark and stormy night, where they encounter transvestite Dr. Frank N Furter, his “perfect” creation Rocky, and an assortment of other crazy creatures.
 
(First preference will be given to previous cast members; specifically those of our most recent production. If a role is not listed, then it has already been filled by a cast member from our most recent revival.)
 
JANET: Female (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, A3-Eb5)
Good girl who is madly in love with Brad. Always seems to be frightened of something. Keeps losing more of her clothes throughout the story. Emotionally weak and caves into pressure easily.
 
COLUMBIA: Female, (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, E4-E5)
One of Frank’s servants.
 
ROCKY: Male (Range: Tenor, A3-G4)
Frank’s magnificent creation. Sexually appealing with prominent muscles.
 
EDDIE/DR. SCOTT: Male, (Range: Baritone, E3-F#4)
Eddie, delivery man, “went to pieces.” Misses the rock and role of life. Comes back to life only to die after his solo. Scott is Eddie’s Uncle.
